About the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics

This provision defines the main directions and principles of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (hereinafter referred to as the Faculty).
I. General provisions
1.1. The faculty is a structural unit of VN Kharkiv National University. Karazin (further referred to as the University), formed for the organization of educational activities for the training of degrees (levels) “Bachelor”, “Specialist” and “Master” in the areas of “Mathematics”, “Applied Mathematics”, “Mechanics”, “Informatics” And specialties “Mathematics”, “Applied Mathematics”, “Informatics”, “Theoretical and Applied Mechanics”, as well as postgraduates and doctoral students in the fields of “Mathematical analysis”, “Differential equations”, “Mathematical physics”, “Geometry and topology”, ” “Algebra and Theory of Numbers”, “Mechanics of fluid, gas and plasma”, “Mathematical modeling and computational methods” (physical, mathematical and technical sciences), “Information technologies”.
1.2. The faculty combines the efforts of the departments, their branches in the research institute and in the production, enterprises-objects of production practices and internships of students in solving the problems specified by this provision.
1.3. The activities of the Faculty are carried out in accordance with the legislation, the University Statute, other documents regulating educational activities and this provision.
1.4. The faculty is directly subordinated to the rector of the University.
1.5. The faculty has a stamp, a stamp and an emblem.
II. Faculty’s tasks
The main tasks of the Faculty are:
2.1. Organization of educational process in licensed areas and specialties.
2.2. Organization and conducting of cultural-educational work among students.
2.3. Participation in the formation of the budget of the structural units of the university.
2.4. Organization and participation in the preparation and approval of educational-methodical complexes of materials of the corresponding specialties, specializations and disciplines in the established order.
2.5. Analysis of current and final students’ progress.
2.6. Participation in the formation of indicators of the state order for the training of specialists.
2.7. Participation in licensing, attestation and accreditation of the relevant field of knowledge.
2.8. Organization of state certification of students according to the plan of preparation of bachelors, specialists and masters.
2.9. Organization of seminars and conferences on issues of science, educational and scientific and methodological provision of educational process.
2.10. Preparation of postgraduate students and doctoral students.
2.11. Organization of educational and industrial practices of students, their training in scientific research, educational institutions and at work, including abroad.
2.12. Participation in the work of the university’s admissions committee.
2.13. Promoting the placement of graduates, analyzing and ensuring the relevance of the educational content to the needs of production.
2.14. Participation in the organization of advanced training and internship of scientific and pedagogical workers.
2.15. Preparation in accordance with the established procedure of specialists with awarding of scientific degrees.
III. The structure of the faculty
3.1. The Faculty members are included
3.1.2. The Department of Basic Mathematics, the main task of which is the training of specialists in the specialty “Mathematics”, the implementation of scientific and methodological activities, as well as providing high-level teaching of mathematical disciplines in other faculties of the faculty;
3.1.2. The Department of Applied Mathematics, the main task of which is to prepare specialists in the fields of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, conducting scientific and methodical activities, as well as providing high-level teaching of mathematical disciplines in other specialties of the faculty;
3.1.3. The Department of Theoretical and Applied Informatics, the main task of which is the training of specialists in the specialty “Informatics”, the carrying out of scientific and methodological activities, as well as providing high-level teaching of disciplines aimed at forming students of other specialties of the faculty of competence in the use of information technologies in accordance with Professional tasks;
3.1.4. The Department of Higher Mathematics and Informatics, the main task of which is to provide training in the fields of mathematics and computer science at other faculties of the University, conducting scientific and methodical activities;
3.1.5. Educational and research laboratories and educational and scientific bases.
3.2. The body of public self-government of the faculty is a meeting of the labor collective of the faculty.
3.3. The working body of the Faculty is the dean’s office, which includes the dean and his deputies.
3.4. In the structure of the faculty, according to the decision of the Academic Council of the University, on the basis of the submission of the rector, taking into account the proposals of the Academic Council of the Faculty, specialist training units may be formed.
IV. Faculty management
4.1. The management of the Faculty is carried out by a dean who is elected by the Academic Council of the University for a term of 5 years, taking into account the proposals of the Faculty. The Rector signs a contract with the Dean of the Faculty. The dean may not be in this position more than two terms.
4.2. The Dean of the Faculty must have a degree and / or a degree (honorary degree) in accordance with the faculty’s profile.
4.3. The Dean of the Faculty may delegate some of his powers to his deputies. The powers of the Dean of the Faculty are determined by Section V of this provision.
4.4. Deputy deans are hired and dismissed from the university by the rector on the proposal of the dean of the Faculty, in agreement with the student bodies of the Faculty.
V. Authorities of the faculty management
5.1. In accordance with the University Charter, the faculty dean conducts all faculty activities.
5.2. Within the limits of his powers arising from the tasks of the Faculty, the Dean issues an order binding on all participants in the educational process of the Faculty and bears personal responsibility for their execution. Decree of the Dean of the Faculty may be canceled by the Rector if they are in conflict with the law, the Charter of the University or prejudice the interests of the University.
5.3. At the Dean, as an advisory body, a teaching and methodical commission is created, which makes suggestions for improving the educational process and provides timely adjustment of curricula and programs approved by the Academic Council of the University.
5.4. The Faculty has the right to make independent decisions within the limits of the powers determined by the current legislation and the Charter of the University.
VI. Functions of the Dean of the Faculty
Dean organizes the work of the Faculty, in particular:
6.1. Develops and implements educational and qualification characteristics, educational and professional programs and working curricula for licensed areas of training specialists and specialties, taking into account specialization.
6.2. Organizes and coordinates educational work, introduction of advanced technologies and forms of education.
6.3. Participates in the distribution of funds of general and special funds between departments of the faculty, which are involved in training specialists in relevant areas, specialties and specializations.
6.4. Organizes and coordinates the development of curriculum disciplines.
6.5. Organizes the development of curriculum graphs for all forms of education and monitors their compliance.
6.6. Participates in the development and updating of the schedule of classes for students of all forms of study.
6.7. Provides curriculum and examinations and controls compliance.
6.8. Allows students to complete credits and exams.
6.9. It organizes a record of students ‘and students’ progress, attends classes, analyzes educational information and develops, together with educational and research centers, measures to improve the educational process.
6.10 Organizes the work of the scholarship committee of the Faculty.
6.11. Participates in events on material incentives for successful students.
6.12. Organizes and conducts training and production practices in conjunction with the educational and scientific departments of the University, and provides students with related professions with the issuance of relevant documents of the established state standard.
6.13. Organizes the certification of students for educational and professional programs for the preparation of bachelors, specialists, masters.
6.14. Prepares draft orders for scholarships, admission of students to the certification examinations, the defense of diploma papers, the transfer of students from the course to the course, the deduction of students, etc.
6.15. Participates in the preparation of draft orders to give students the opportunity to study according to individual schedules and curricula.
6.16. Coordinates the preparation and promotes the publication of teaching and methodological support.
6.17. Selects and completes, together with the educational and scientific departments of the University, a staff of scientific and pedagogical staff for the educational process.
6.18. Participates in organization of professional development of scientific and pedagogical workers.
6.19. Develops and implements, together with educational and scientific departments of the University, measures to improve the professional skills of specialists.
6.20. Participates in the work of the university’s admissions committee.
6.21. Organizes and conducts vocational guidance work with young people in conjunction with the University’s academic and research departments and the University’s academic department.
6.22. Plans, organizes and holds sessions of the educational-methodical commission, the Academic Council of the Faculty, scientific-methodical conferences, meetings, seminars, scientific conferences, etc.
6.23. Organizes together with the educational and scientific departments of the University work with the senior staff and curators of academic groups on the issues of academic achievement and academic discipline of students.
6.24. Organizes and conducts cultural and educational work among students.
6.25. Organizes and conducts olympiads in specialties, subject competitions within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad of students.
6.26. Organizationally provides participation of the students of the Faculty in contests, grants, scientific researches.
6.27. Organizationally ensures the participation of the students of the Faculty in general university cultural-mass and sporting events.
6.28. Organizationally ensures the participation of the students of the Faculty in the scientific and innovative activities of the Departments, Faculty, and the University.
VII. Interaction of the Faculty with other departments of the University
7.1. The dean’s office, as the working body of the Faculty, is organisationally and functionally subordinated to the Dean of the Faculty and the Department of the University, who coordinate the activities of the Dean’s Office and the Faculty.
7.2. In carrying out its activities, the Faculty collaborates with:
7.2.1. Educational and scientific divisions, centers, departments and branches of departments;
7.2.2. Research institutes, faculties, centers and other departments of the University;
7.2.3. Research institutes of NAS of Ukraine;
7.2.4. Enterprises whose activities require specialists in the specialties on which the Faculty prepares.
7.3. In the process of interaction with various departments of the University, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty receives and provides the necessary information on issues related to its activities.
VIII. Academic Council of the Faculty
8.1. The Academic Council of the Faculty is the collegial body of the Faculty. The Academic Council of the Faculty is headed by its chairman, who is elected in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” and the Statute of the University.
8.2. The composition and powers of the Academic Council of the Faculty are determined by the Academic Council of the University in accordance with the University Statute.
IX. The bodies of public self-governance of the Faculty
9.1. The body of public self-government of the Faculty is a meeting (conference) of the staff of the Faculty, including elective representatives from the number of persons studying at the university.
9.2. The procedure for convening a body of public self-government of the Faculty and its activities is determined by the Charter of the Kharkiv National University named after V. N. Karazin.
9.3. All faculty members and elected representatives from the Faculty members must be represented at the Faculty of Public Self-Government. At the same time, not less than 75 percent of the delegates (members) of the electoral body should be made up of scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff of the Faculty and at least 15 percent – elected representatives from the number of students elected by the students through direct secret elections.
9.4. The meeting (conference) of the participants of the educational process of the Faculty shall be convened not less than once a year.
9.5. Department of public self-government of the Faculty:
9.5.1. Evaluates the activities of the head of the Faculty;
9.5.2. Approves the annual report on the activities of the Faculty;
9.5.3. Submit to the rector the proposal for withdrawal from the post of dean on the grounds provided by the legislation of Ukraine, the Charter of the University, a contract concluded with him;
9.5.4. Elect elected representatives to the Academic Council of the Faculty;
9.5.5. Elect delegates to the conference of the University staff.
X. The responsibility of the Faculty
10.1. The responsibility of the Faculty is realized through the responsibility of the dean, his deputies, heads of departments, and other members of the Faculty, as defined in their job descriptions.
